About Infant Massage Instruction Courses Mimi Infant Massage Instruction Courses

Mimi Infant Massage Instruction courses are for parents and carers of children aged from birth to 12 months and are delivered by a fully-trained instructor.

Baby massage helps you and your child gently and happily transition in to their new world by surrounding them with gentle touch, rhythm, smells and sounds of comfort.

Not only will you learn how to confidently use massage and touch, but you will also gain confidence in using your voice, movement and other forms of communication to help soothe, settle and communicate with your little one.

Our baby massage course helps to promote a healthy relationship between baby and parent/carer, establishing trust during the special bonding and attachment process.

The aim of The First Touch Program is to support and promote the development of healthy, secure attachment relationships between parents and their baby.

The First Touch Program Delivered by a professional, certified instructor

The First Touch Program is identified by medical researchers as the 'Gold Standard' and highest quality program of its kind. The First Touch Program is the only one of its kind in Australia that has been extensively researched. The First Touch Program has a number of key elements that are brought together into a low-cost, evidence-informed and effective program to support early relationships between babies and families.

• healthy touch
• cue recognition
• other interactions

The courses are held in an intimate group setting of no more than 8 families in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The course is designed to support you, as an individual, to use and adapt healthy touch and other types of interaction in ways that suit your own parenting style and choices, as well as the unique (and often changing) needs of your individual baby.

FAQs

  • What if my baby is unwell, should I still come to the class?
    No as this will be worrying for you and stressful for your baby. Stay home, ease your anxiety and look after your little one. We will pick up your missed lesson at a convenient time.
  • What if my baby falls asleep during the class?
    Don’t worry, you won’t miss out as we have dolls available to practice with
  • What should I bring to class?
    A cushion for your to sit on as all classes are taught on the floor. As we use oil during massage strokes, this is for the safety of your baby. Any cushions or blankets for your baby to rest on during the class and the learning of strokes.
  • Can I attend with my grandchild?
    Absolutely! We encourage carers to attend also
  • Who massages my baby in the class?
    You are the only person who will massage your child. Your instructor, Linda, will work closely with you to teach you the correct strokes, rhythm and pressure. The class is designed to be an amazing bonding experience between you and your baby, and to teach you the skills you need to continually massage your little one at home.
  • Can my husband/partner attend with me?
    Would love to have them! During each session only one parent is to massage. This helps to prevent overstimulation for your baby. A demonstration doll can be provided for the parent not massaging. Each week, take turns and share the joy in class!
  • What areas do you service exactly? Marulan ,Wingello, Penrose, Bundanoon, Exeter, Sutton Forest, Moss Vale, Bowral, Mittagong, Balaclava. Linda is happy to travel outside of these areas however a travel surcharge of $45 may apply.
  • Do you provide adult massage? No. Mimi Infant Massage Instruction does not offer massage services (for either children or adults) as I specialise in teaching parents and carers how to correctly massage their baby. I do strongly recommend you contact local therapist Miriam Shultz at Elysian Massage for a wonderful massage for yourself

What will you learn? Learn how to adapt and modify massage to suit your baby's needs

In each of the five sessions your instructor Linda will take you through a series of different activities that incorporate massage, healthy touch, voice, eye contact and many other interactions.

Linda will work with you to highlight and help you identify what your baby might be communicating with you through their body language, cues and other interactions.

Linda will offer ideas for how you might be able to adapt and modify the massage or other interactions you are using to suit your own baby's individual reactions...and your own personal preferences and parenting styles.

  • How to have a "conversation" with your baby using healthy touch;
  • How to use and adapt different massage strokes and routines for your baby, including special techniques for sensitive or very unsettled babies (also referred to as "colic");
  • How to incorporate more eye-contact, facial expressions and voice into your interactions with your baby
  • Learn relaxation techniques
  • Ways to use other types of healthy and respectful touch (particularly important for sensitive or medically fragile babies, or babies who don't respond well to massage or moving strokes)
  • Gain valuable insights and take-home material on important topics around parenting and relationship with your child such as affect regulation, attachment relationship.
  • Singing and reading to your baby and the part these play in your baby's development
  • The opportunity to meet and get to know other parents in a friendly and non-judgemental environment
